About

Drophouse Culture

We are a tight-knit team keenly focused on the art of building. Our name comes from the fabrication term “drop,” which refers to leftover or scrap material, and the word house, a place for living. We believe that in order to find truth in designing and building, our profession should be equally devoted to both of these aspects of creation. That devotion is our north star, and it has guided us through a long list of projects, solving each pragmatically, responsibly, and creatively. Each of them champions responsive design and responsible materiality.

Drophouse History

Drophouse began its creative existence in 2012 as the culmination of Christian Klein’s journey through architecture, fabrication, and construction. Christian and his wife Christy met Matt while teaching architecture at a university in India, and Matt moved to Austin shortly after to help launch Drophouse.

Over the course of the next few years, Drophouse grew a varied cast of design, fabrication, and construction professionals to build the team we are today. A multitude of projects and a broad range of clients have had an immeasurable impact in forming the identity of the firm and the skillsets of our members. Drophouse continues to operate on a simple idea: Bring us a problem, and we will find the solution.

Drophouse Philosophy

At Drophouse, we treat design as both experiment and exploration. We combine myriad backgrounds, insights, and strengths, driven by a rigorous work ethic to deliver design that is original, innovative, and imaginative.

The Drophouse studio is as much a laboratory as it is a design practice. We collaborate constantly, pushing ourselves to craft new and original concepts. Our team diversity, creative curiosity, and laboratory environment are the catalysts that fuel our design development.
